Support the Cause
The Seattle Veterans Museum is dedicated to telling the stories of our veterans, our parents, our ancestors and our country. These are the men and women who built this country, saved it from aggression many times and continue to protect it and the principles of freedom on which it was founded.
Throughout our history, and still today, there have been ordinary individuals who rose from the ranks to give their lives for this country. There is no greater devotion. There is no greater debt to pay. This is the debt that we all owe to these fallen veterans, a debt we can never fully repay, but must continually strive to.
One of the artifacts donated to the museum is a Purple Heart medal that was given posthumously to Private Walter Foltz who was killed in France on June 22, 1944. Included with the medal was a certificate of condolence that was presented to the family. It reads,
HE STANDS IN THE UNBROKEN LINE OF PATRIOTS
WHO HAVE DARED TO DIE THAT FREEDOM MIGHT LIVE,
AND GROW, AND INCREASE ITS BLESSINGS.
FREEDOM LIVES. AND THRU IT, HE LIVES -
IN A WAY THAT HUMBLES THE UNDERTAKINGS OF MOST MEN.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
President of the United States
Freedom does live. We enjoy it, thanks to our benefactors, Private Foltz and millions of other veterans.
Freedom must continue to grow. The Seattle Veterans Museum is dedicated to this. To ensure its preservation and growth, we must first appreciate freedom for what it is now, remembering every day that freedom is not automatic, it has been earned, by others, and should be cherished by us today.
To carry on this growth of freedom, we need your financial support. Please become a member of our organization, but more importantly, become a part of it and share in this growth of freedom. Your contribution, be it a member ship, a gift honoring a loved one or a major sponsorship, will help build this legacy to be shared with all generations to come.
